Qualcomm has announced a potentially pathbreaking upgrade to its mega-successful Snapdragon processor. The snapdragon is going in for a major facelift with introducing multi-core processors(single, dual and quad core), with speeds of up to 2.5 GHz and expected performance gains upto 150%, alongwith a drop of 65 percent in power consumption.
A new Adreno 320 GPU, with support of up to four 3D cores, is also included in the package.
It would also interest connectivity junkies, with a stereoscopic 3D(S3D) video, photo capture and playback. And, every Snapdragon chipset is going to support every major operating system, across all categories of products.
The early versions for the dual-core MSM8960 are expected to be launched as early as the second quater this year, while single-core and quad-core versions expected by early 2012.
But for all those waiting to get their hands on a device powered by these processors, the wait is expected to be pretty long.
